Despite persistent rain and mud, the crowds turned out in force for Halloween in Wichita’s College Hill neighborhood, according to a report by KWCH.
While communities across the country mark the holiday in various ways, the celebration in College Hill has evolved into a local tradition.
“College Hill Halloween, we go big every year,” said Jeff Polson, a neighborhood resident, in an interview with KWCH. “We do something new every year.”

The display featured props, set pieces, costumes, and music.

“I grew up in College Hill, and when we moved back – I love Halloween. It’s the best holiday,” Chloe Polson told KWCH. “And so we needed to do something fun. And I love the idea of something different every year. And it’s a challenge for us to build it.”
Jeff Polson mentioned the household interacts with roughly 3,000 people over the course of the evening, greeting visitors.
“It’s fun to interact with the community. That’s really the best part is all the people smiling, happy,” Jeff Polson said to KWCH. “Getting to shake hands with 3,000 people basically. Tell them happy Halloween.”
Community Tradition and Scale
The event draws families from the area. For many, the effort required to stage the displays is a challenge.
Chloe Polson’s childhood best friend traveled to Wichita specifically for Halloween, underscoring its draw.
“I think it’s part of College Hill’s charm, and the community for sure,” Jeff Polson said.
“We love seeing families come by, all dressed up together. It’s the best,” Chloe Polson added.
