Baked by Melissa is stepping out of the bakery and into the baking aisle, launching its bite-size cupcake kits exclusively at Target stores on November 3, 2026. The rollout brings custom kits, specialized liners, and matching pans priced at $7.99 each to retail shelves just in time for the holiday shopping season.
Target Launches Exclusive Baking Kits for Holidays
The exclusive partnership arrives as Target looks to win back core family shoppers following a sluggish holiday performance last year. The retailer is introducing more than 250 new food and beverage products this season, positioning the new baking kits among its key seasonal offerings to attract shoppers hunting for specialty treats.
Target’s online listings feature several options, including Red Velvet Bite-Size Cupcake Kit, Christmas Tie-Dye Bite-Size Cupcake Kit and Marshmallow Hot Cocoa Bite-Size Cupcake Kit. Each kit lets customers prepare the brand’s signature bite-size portions in their own kitchens rather than buying ready-made desserts.

The upcoming two-month holiday window will test whether nostalgic at-home baking kits can successfully convert digital brand awareness into physical retail basket growth. For Target, the next two months will be critical as the retailer tries to woo back its core customer after a disappointing holiday season last year.
Founder Spends Twelve Months Developing Mass Market Items
Bringing the dessert brand into mass-market grocery aisles required a twelve-month incubation period. Melissa Ben-Ishay noted that while her bakery can turn around custom concepts in just a few days—such as producing New York Knicks-branded mini-cupcakes after the team won the NBA championship in June—working in the consumer packaged goods sector demanded a lot of waiting and approvals and new partners,

The retail push started taking shape a year ago during a family shopping trip. Ben-Ishay realized her products belonged on grocery shelves while walking down the baking aisle with her two kids, noting her own habits as a 42-year-old mother of two closely matched Target’s primary demographic.

TikTok Presence Helps Dessert Brand Expand Online
Before the retail step, online content carried much of the brand’s expansion. Digital media has played a major role in expanding the brand far beyond its regional footprint, anchored by a TikTok presence with more than 2.8 million followers fueled by viral recipe videos and prior collaborations with major consumer brands like Ferrero and Wonder.

The move places the dessert company alongside a growing wave of restaurants and food brands turning to consumer packaged goods to boost sales. While established players like California Pizza Kitchen and TGI Fridays have utilized frozen food licensing for decades, newer entrants such as Chick-fil-A and Dutch Bros have leaned into grocery products more recently.
