Bentley Honors a Century-Old Rivalry With the 12-Car Olympia Collection
A century after an impromptu roadside duel across the French countryside reshaped British motoring history, Bentley Motors is looking backward to chart its latest exclusive run. As bentleymedia.com reported, the Crewe-based manufacturer has unveiled the Olympia Collection by Mulliner, an ultra-limited run of just 12 Continental GT coupes built to commemorate the 1926 Olympia Motor Show debut of the legendary six-cylinder 6 ½ Litre.
The collection draws its lineage straight from a turning-point era when W.O. Bentley sought to expand the brand beyond its initial 1921 3 Litre offering. Discerning owners wanted a larger chassis capable of hauling heavy luxury coachwork without sacrificing performance, prompting the development of the six-cylinder engine. That engineering push received an unexpected catalyst during a 1924 test drive in France, when W.O. and three colleagues traveling from the European Grand Prix in Lyon to Dieppe found themselves side-by-side with a prototype from a chief rival at a country crossroads. The two disguised vehicles raced neck-and-neck at speeds exceeding 80 mph along the tree-lined Route Nationale. Although the Bentley triumphed, the narrow margin of victory left W.O. dissatisfied, driving him to bore out the engine from 4.5 liters to 6.5 liters upon returning to England so he could stay permanently ahead of the competition.
Bespoke Details Rooted in 1920s Heritage
One hundred years later, autoevolution.com noted that the resulting Olympia Collection translates those historic milestones into modern grand tourer form through meticulous hand-crafted detailing. Each of the 12 individually numbered Continental GT coupes wears a bespoke Verdant to Midnight Emerald Ombré exterior paint finish developed exclusively by Mulliner to evoke the spectrum of classic British Racing Green.
The exterior treatment breaks away from contemporary brightwork by utilizing Champagne Gold for the badging, lower bodywork pinstripe, and the face accents of the black 22-inch Mulliner wheels. These golden accents mirror the nickel silver radiator shells and switchgear found on early 1920s models. A standard Blackline specification darkens the remaining exterior brightwork, while opening the doors triggers an animated floor projection depicting W.O. Bentley’s historic Lyon-to-Dieppe drive.
Inside the cabin, Mulliner has curated a distinct color split featuring a heritage-patinated Coach Green main hide paired with Cumbrian Green secondary leather. The dashboard incorporates black stained fascia, waistrails, and open-pore crown cut walnut veneer, complemented by diamond knurled controls and dials whose bezels directly reference the 1926 6 ½ Litre speedometer. Champagne Gold highlights the seat piping, gear lever, and organ stops, while the steering wheel features box stitching designed to mimic vintage rope-bound steering wheels.

Historical Tributes Etched Into the Interior
Further cementing the historical narrative, the rear cabin features unique ski hatch embroidery that outlines the Lyon-to-Dieppe route map in Champagne Gold against a Cumbrian Green region outline. Black treadplates bearing an ‘Olympia Collection by Mulliner’ motif mark the threshold for occupants.
Every vehicle in the 12-unit run ships with a comprehensive suite of curated accessories. Owners receive a custom green car cover accented in Champagne Gold, a commemorative handover box, the official story of the Olympia Collection book, and a bespoke chronograph from Brooklands Watch Co.
