Burlington DUI Crash Shuts Down Popular Ice Cream Truck After Early-Morning Impact
A late-night crash in Burlington, Connecticut, has knocked a familiar local sweet spot out of commission. Branden Anderson Alvarado, 27, of Bristol, faces criminal charges after state police say he drove his car off the road and plowed straight into a utility trailer housing the Farmstead Ice Cream Truck, according to dailyvoice.com.
The collision happened at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, November 1. According to documentation from the Connecticut State Police detailed by WFSB, Alvarado was driving a 2020 Toyota Camry SE south on Milford Street near South Main Street—noted in state police reports as Milford Road—when his vehicle crossed directly into the northbound lane. The car veered off the asphalt entirely, smashing into a concrete barrier and the utility trailer parked at Tonn’s Marketplace.
The impact left the Camry heavily damaged and unable to drive, forcing a tow truck to clear the scene. The vehicle ultimately came to a rest facing west on the front lawn of the marketplace located at 418 Milford Street. First responders evaluated Alvarado at the scene, where he reported no injuries and refused medical transport by emergency medical services.
Marketplace Responds as Court Date Looms
Tonn’s Marketplace addressed the sudden disruption on social media, posting a statement on Facebook Sunday afternoon to inform customers that the Farmstead Ice Cream Truck—which operates directly out of the wrecked utility trailer—will remain closed until further notice. The business did not provide a specific timeline for repairs or a potential reopening date, leaving regular patrons waiting as local commerce absorbs the unexpected setback.

State troopers on the scene arrested Alvarado following the crash. Authorities charged him with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain his lane, or failure to drive in the proper lane, as noted in the state police records. Following his arrest, Alvarado was released on a $500 bond.
He is scheduled to make his first appearance in state Superior Court in Torrington on November 16 to face the charges.
