South Jersey Rescue Operators Charged After Dog Shot in Head
Thomas Thompson, 37, and Brooke Thompson, 34, operators of Gone Rogue Girls Rescue in Browns Mills, New Jersey, were taken into custody on Thursday following a Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office investigation into animal cruelty, unlawful weapon possession, and deceptive fundraising.
The case began after a Mullica Hill resident contacted law enforcement regarding an incident at her home in April 2026. NBC10 Philadelphia reported that the Thompsons arrived at the foster home to administer vaccinations to a pit bull named Biggie Smalls, an animal originally sourced from their Burlington County organization. According to investigators, the dog became aggressive and attempted to bite Brooke Thompson. Thomas Thompson then pulled a firearm from his waistband and shot the dog in the head, killing it before placing the animal in a bag and removing it from the property.
Rescues Launch Fundraiser Before Police Discover Neglected Dogs
Roughly a month after the shooting, Gone Rogue Girls Rescue launched an online fundraising campaign seeking memorial donations for Biggie Smalls. The rescue claimed the animal had been humanely euthanized and buried following a diagnosis of an aggressive form of brain cancer. Prosecutors charged Brooke Thompson with theft by deception in connection with those online solicitations.
During the execution of a search warrant at the Thompsons’ residence on Tecumseh Trail, law enforcement officers discovered twelve dogs housed in overcrowded conditions. According to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, the animals were covered in urine and feces, and several lacked access to fresh water. Officers removed all twelve dogs and transferred them to the Burlington County Animal Shelter in Westampton for medical assessment and recovery.

Ongoing Investigations into Gone Rogue Girls Rescue Operations
Around that same period, ACCT Philly announced it was actively attempting to track down dogs previously transferred to Gone Rogue Girls Rescue while the organization’s website and social media profiles went dark.
Law enforcement officials stated that the investigation remains active as authorities examine whether additional animals may have been illegally euthanized by the operators. Thomas Thompson faces two counts of animal cruelty and two counts of unlawful possession of weapons, while Brooke Thompson has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty and one count of theft by deception. Anyone possessing relevant information is encouraged to contact the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
