Minneapolis is waking up to the reality of a 27-year prison sentence for a man at the center of a deadly gang feud. Marquan Deshaun Tucker, a 21-year-old alleged member of the “Highs” gang, was sentenced to 329 months in prison for his role in the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Patrick Henderson, KSTP reported. The sentencing marks an important moment in a case that has cast a harsh light on the city's persistent struggle with gang violence.
A Fatal Night on 26th Avenue
The story begins in the early morning hours of July 30, 2023. At around 4:20 a.m., Henderson was shot near the intersection of 26th Avenue and North Second Street, just outside a Minneapolis nightclub. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Court documents reveal that Tucker had been messaging people on Facebook about attending a party prior to the murder. His phone was traced to the area of the shooting, and he fled the scene immediately afterward. Investigators later found a deeply disturbing piece of evidence: Tucker had screen-recorded a video of Henderson lying on the ground, with captions celebrating the man’s death.

Tucker Pleads Guilty to Murder
The case against Tucker was built on a combination of digital evidence and witness testimony. In 2025, investigators spoke to two witnesses who claimed Tucker had admitted to them that he had shot Henderson. These firsthand accounts, corroborated by the damning digital trail, formed the basis for the prosecution. Tucker pleaded guilty earlier this year to aiding and abetting second-degree murder.
The sentence handed down by the Hennepin County District Court was severe: 329 months, or 27 years and 5 months, in prison. The court ordered Tucker to receive credit for 696 days already served. While this case is resolved, Tucker’s legal troubles are far from over. He remains charged in two other murder cases: the 2022 killing of a man at the Mall of America, where he allegedly blocked a store entrance to trap the victim, and the 2024 shooting death of another alleged “Lows” gang member in Brooklyn Park.
The sentencing of Tucker has sparked a wave of reactions from the community, with many residents expressing relief that justice has been served, while others lament the ongoing cycle of violence that continues to plague the city.

A City’s Lingering Struggle
The Tucker sentencing is not an isolated event but a piece of a much larger and more complex puzzle for Minneapolis. The city has seen a surge in gang-related incidents, with police reporting a significant increase in shootings and homicides linked to gang activity.
Community leaders have pointed to the need for increased intervention programs aimed at youth, emphasizing the importance of providing alternatives to gang affiliation. Local organizations like the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce and various nonprofits are actively working to address the root causes of gang violence by advocating for community engagement initiatives that build stronger neighborhoods and provide support for affected families.
