Black Library has unveiled a new novel titled Throne Questoris by Victoria Hayward, placing Imperial Knights at the center of a dying world’s defense. The upcoming release is paired with new special and illustrated editions from authors John French and Ben Counter, all set to arrive for pre-order soon.
The story thrusts readers directly into the Throne Mechanicum of an ancient war machine, tasked with defending a failing world.
Asrien Balateur Fights to Save a Perilous Kingdom
Knightly scion Asrien Balateur stands moments away from claiming a birthright throne, but the surrounding kingdom faces severe peril. Mysterious snowstorms swallow the land while Imperial Knights vanish among shattered castles and ravaged territories. Asrien must contend with more than just the usual pressures of a king’s court and the petty squabbles of quarrelsome barons, as an ancient madness surfaces from the planet’s murky past.
With debts long forgotten threatening the region, only the future king can hope to rally the populace.
Cypher and Grey Knights Return in Special Editions
Black Library also highlighted two other Warhammer 40,000 releases alongside the new Imperial Knights book. John French’s classic novel Cypher: Lord of the Fallen joins the publisher’s line of Illustrated and Annotated Editions. The updated release details the enigmatic rogue’s escape from Holy Terra, featuring a fresh author introduction, contextual commentary throughout, and all-new scene-setting illustrations.

Meanwhile, Ben Counter’s Grey Knights returns in an ornate Special Edition. The novel serves as a window into the day-to-day operations of the Grey Knights Chapter and their eternal war against the empyrean. A mortally wounded daemonhunter previously banished the powerful daemon Ghargatuloth back to the Warp for a thousand years.
All three titles—Throne Questoris, Cypher: Lord of the Fallen, and the Special Edition of Grey Knights—will be available to pre-order soon. Readers looking to dive into Imperial Knights fiction in the meantime can access Kingsblade, Knightsblade, and Knights of the Imperium on the Black Library app.
