Jeff Brohm secures 100th career win as Louisville dominates Georgia Tech 44-17
Wide receiver Tre Richardson accounted for 104 total yards and two touchdowns, including a 52-yard scoring run, as the Louisville Cardinals routed the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 44-17 on Saturday night at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field in Atlanta, according to Field Level Media. The victory marked the fourth straight win for Louisville and the 100th career victory for head coach Jeff Brohm.
Brohm is in his fourth season at Louisville following stints at Western Kentucky from 2014 to 2016 and Purdue from 2017 to 2022. With the win, the Cardinals improved to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Quarterback Lincoln Kienholz directed the offensive charge for Louisville, throwing for 182 yards and two touchdowns on 17-for-25 passing. Kienholz also added 81 rushing yards on nine carries, helping the Cardinals amass 251 of their 456 total yards on the ground. Field Level Media reported that this performance marks the fourth time in the last five games and the sixth time this season that Louisville has gained at least 200 rushing yards in a single contest.
Building a decisive lead in the first half
The Cardinals took control of the game by outscoring the Yellow Jackets 21-0 during an 8:26 stretch in the first half. Richardson opened the scoring surge with an 8-yard touchdown reception from Kienholz, pushing the lead to 10-3 with 3:26 remaining in the first quarter.
Tre Richardson's 52-yard rushing touchdown at Georgia Tech was the longest TD run by a Louisville wide receiver since Harry Douglas' 65-yarder vs. Boise State in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 31, 2004.
After forcing a Georgia Tech three-and-out, Kienholz engineered a 64-yard, eight-play drive that concluded with a 4-yard touchdown pass to TreyShun Hurry with 12:31 left in the second quarter. Hurry matched a career high with eight receptions while setting a personal best with 104 receiving yards. Richardson added four catches for 52 yards.
Following another Georgia Tech three-and-out, Richardson struck again on an end-around, taking the ball 52 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 24-3 with 10 minutes remaining before halftime.
Louisville extended its advantage to 27-3 in the final minute of the first half. However, Georgia Tech quarterback Alberto Mendoza led a seven-play, 75-yard drive ending with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Fuhrmann with just 10 seconds left in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 17 points.
Struggles on third and fourth downs for Georgia Tech
At halftime, Louisville held a commanding 305-141 advantage in total yards, while the Yellow Jackets managed just three rushing yards in the opening two quarters.
Mendoza finished the night throwing for 148 yards and a touchdown on 13-for-25 passing, splitting drives with Grady Adamson. Adamson completed 12 of 19 passes for 93 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
In dropping their fourth straight game, the Yellow Jackets fell to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Georgia Tech finished with 350 total yards of offense but struggled mightily to sustain drives, converting just 4 of 17 on third down and 3 of 7 on fourth down.
