Madison Booker Hits 2,000-Point Milestone as No. 6 Texas Dominates Northern Colorado

Madison Booker Reaches 2,000 Career Points as No. 6 Texas Dominates Northern Colorado 91-29

“A lot of great players come here to be great outside of Texas too, so (to) come here and add myself to the list of being elite, but you know also to the players that’ve been before me to pave the way. Just (to) be able to be (on) that list with them is just, (I have) no words to say.”

Senior forward Madison Booker reached that milestone with 5:37 remaining in the first quarter, stepping to the free-throw line inside the Moody Center to sink one of the biggest points of her career since arriving on the Forty Acres. The shot made her only the fourth women’s basketball player in Texas program history to hit 2,000 career points. Booker finished the night with a team-leading 30 points, shooting 10-for-14 from the field while adding six assists and two steals. Her 2,023 total career points moved her past Clarissa Davis’s 2,008 points from 1985–89 into third place all-time in program scoring.

Defensive Pressure and Freshman Contributions Fuel the Rout

The milestone highlighted an overwhelming 91-29 victory for the No. 6 Longhorns (2-0) against Northern Colorado, a team that failed to score 10 points in three of the four quarters. The performance marked a sharp turnaround just three days after Texas was outscored in two separate quarters by Fairleigh Dickinson. Head coach Vic Schaefer preached high-intensity defense all week, and his roster delivered by forcing 32 total turnovers and converting them into 33 points.

The tone was set immediately on back-to-back possessions with monster blocks from junior guard Zya Vann and sophomore guard Jayda Clark. Freshmen also stepped into prominent roles. Forward Brihanna Crittendon returned after missing the season opener due to an eye injury sustained during morning shootarounds, contributing 11 points and two steals. Guard Addison Bjorn led the freshman class with 13 points on 83 percent shooting from the field, while guard Lizzy Spaight added eight points. Midway through the fourth quarter, Schaefer cleared the floor to put in a full lineup of all five freshmen.

“All five of these freshmen—I said this before we went to UConn—they’re confident,” Schaefer said. “I don’t think any moment’s going to be too big for them. They’re just good basketball players and they’re great kids.”

Upcoming Nonconference Tests at the Moody Center and Beyond

The lopsided win extends a streak to 46 victories at the Moody Center, lifting the program’s all-time home record to 71-5. Breya Cunningham also chipped in 10 points, six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks, while Bryanna Preston anchored the defense by drawing three charges.

The Longhorns will need that defensive intensity to carry forward as they face a demanding nonconference schedule. Texas returns to the Moody Center on November 11 to face South Dakota State at 6:00 p.m. on the SEC Network, before traveling to Fort Worth, Texas, on November 22 to play No. 18 Ohio State, who secured a No. 3 seed in last season’s March Madness tournament.
