Whitechurch native Norma Sheahan has been named Cork Person of the Month for October. The honor recognizes Sheahan’s career and her contributions to the entertainment industry and arts in Ireland.

Career in Film, Television, and Theatre

Sheahan has built a diverse portfolio across multiple mediums. Her screen work includes appearances in The Dry, Bodkin, The Young Offenders, The Clinic, and Moone Boy, as well as a role in the award-winning movie Kneecap.

On stage, she is currently touring the country in the title role of Shirley Valentine. Her previous theatrical credits include The Vagina Monologues and Sive. In 2000, she was awarded Best Actress at the Dublin Theatre Festival for her role in Bedbound by Enda Walsh.

Comedy and Digital Media

Expanding into comedy, Sheahan toured her show It’s Wine O’Clock nationwide during 2025 and 2026. She also co-hosts the Middle Rage podcast with Sharon Mannion and Jennifer Zamparelli, a program where the friends use honesty and humor to discuss midlife subjects including ageing, perimenopause, and divorce.

Education and Community Impact

Sheahan’s training began at the Cork School of Music and Montfort College of Performing Arts. She made her first acting appearance at age 11 in a Cork Opera House pantomime as Little Red Riding Hood and later earned a diploma in acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in 2000.

Outside of the arts, Sheahan and her family won Celebrity Ireland’s Fittest Family in 2019. They donated their €10,000 prize to the ARC Cancer Support House in Cork.

Sheahan is now eligible for selection as Cork Person of the Year, which will be decided at the Annual Gala Awards Lunch in January at The Metropole Hotel.
