Oklahoma High School Football Playoff Scenarios Take Shape for 2026 Postseason
As the 2026 regular season enters its final week, the Oklahoma high school football playoff picture is coming into sharp focus across the state’s classifications. The Oklahoman reported the breakdown of district scenarios, detailing how teams in Classes 6A-I and 6A-II will navigate the closing games to secure their postseason positioning.
In Classes 6A-I and 6A-II, the postseason format guarantees playoff berths for the top six teams in each district, with the top two finishers earning coveted first-round byes. For all other classifications across Oklahoma, the playoff field narrows to the top four teams in each district.
Class 6A-I District Breakdowns and Key Matchups
District 6A-I-1 features high-stakes games with Broken Arrow traveling to Edmond North and Norman North visiting Edmond Memorial. Broken Arrow currently holds the top spot in the district standings, followed by Bixby in second and Mustang in third.

Edmond North enters the final week needing a win to secure the fourth seed. A loss combined with a Norman North win drops Edmond North to fifth, while a loss and an Edmond Memorial win leaves their final seeding—anywhere from fourth to sixth—dependent on district points. Norman North claims the fourth seed with a victory, but falls to sixth if they lose and Edmond North wins. Like Edmond North, Norman North’s fate with a loss and a Broken Arrow win rests on district points.

Edmond Memorial can finish anywhere from fourth to sixth depending on district calculations. They secure the fifth seed with a win and an Edmond North victory, take sixth with a loss, or fluctuate based on tiebreakers if they win and Broken Arrow defeats Edmond North.
In District 6A-I-2, the schedule includes Tulsa Union at Owasso, Yukon at Moore, and Deer Creek at Edmond Santa Fe. Jenks sits comfortably at the top of the district in first place.
Owasso and Tulsa Union are battling for the second and third seeds, with the winner of their matchup taking second and the loser taking third. A similar dynamic plays out for the fourth and fifth seeds between Yukon and Moore, where a win guarantees the fourth spot and a loss results in the fifth. Deer Creek and Edmond Santa Fe are both fighting for the sixth seed with a win in their regular-season finales.
Class 6A-II Postseason Scenarios
Class 6A-II brings its own set of complications as teams vie for playoff positioning. In District 6A-II-1, key games include Putnam North at Piedmont and Putnam West at Norman.
Choctaw leads the district in first place. Putnam City secures the second seed with a Putnam North win, or with a Piedmont win paired with a Norman win. If Piedmont wins and Putnam West defeats Norman, Putnam City slips to third.
Piedmont can claim the second seed outright with a win and a Putnam West win. With a win and a Norman victory, Piedmont’s final position at third or fourth depends on district points. A loss coupled with a Putnam West win leaves Piedmont anywhere from third to fifth based on tiebreakers, while a loss and a Norman win places them fourth.
Norman sits in third with a win and a Putnam North win, but drops to fourth if they lose and Piedmont wins. Putnam North secures the fourth seed with a win and a Norman victory, takes fifth with a loss, and remains subject to district points if they win and Putnam West defeats Norman. Putnam West enters the final stretch locked into sixth place.
Finally, District 6A-II-2 features Bartlesville at Stillwater, Muskogee at Sand Springs, and Tulsa Booker T. Washington at Ponca City. Stillwater and Bartlesville battle for the top spot, with the winner taking first and the loser taking second. Muskogee and Sand Springs compete for the third and fourth seeds, while Ponca City and Tulsa Booker T. Washington fight to avoid the sixth seed with fifth-place implications on the line.
