Central College Wrestlers Claim Individual Titles at Luther Hill Open
The Central College men’s wrestling season kicked off in Indianola with a strong showing at the Luther Hill Open, where two junior grapplers captured individual weight class championships. According to Central College Athletics, juniors Bryson Spaulding and Dominick Marre led the Dutch squad by finishing at the very top of their respective brackets.
Spaulding, competing at 157 pounds and hailing from Villa Park, Illinois, outlasted his opponents in a five-man round-robin format to secure an unbeaten record. He put his dominance on display by pinning two of his four tournament opponents. Meanwhile, Marre battled through the 125-pound bracket with a clean 3-0 record. In the final match, the Carol Stream, Illinois native edged out teammate Aiden Irvin by a narrow 5-4 margin, sealing the victory with a crucial third-period escape.
Runners-Up and Open Division Standings
The Dutch also found success deeper in the brackets during Sunday’s competition. Junior Carter West reached the finals at 133 pounds before an injury default forced him to settle for runner-up honors. In the open divisions, three more Central wrestlers wrestled their way to bronze medals: William Penn at 149 pounds, Casey Jackson at 157 pounds, and Cole Martin at 184 pounds. Additional podium finishes came in the freshman and sophomore brackets, where CJ Davis took third at 141 pounds and Drew Lansing placed third at 197 pounds.

With the opening tournament behind them, the team turns its focus toward early-season dual competition. Central will host Nebraska Wesleyan University on Wednesday, November 11, with the action scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. inside P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.
