Speaking in an interview on Joanna Stern’s YouTube channel, Brockman did not confirm specific rumors about a smart speaker or a wearable device, stating only that users can expect the hardware soon.

Despite widespread industry speculation, Brockman declined to confirm recent reports suggesting the company plans to launch a smart speaker by 2027 or earlier. He similarly sidestepped older rumors linking the project to wearable technology akin to the Humane AI pin.
When pressed on a release timeline, Brockman offered no specific dates, telling the channel only that you can expect them soon.
Asked if Apple’s lawsuit against OpenAI might affect their collaborative hardware development, Brockman stated, We are focused on our own development and technology.
He added, We have no interest in other companies’ trade secrets.
We are plenty innovative.
We are thinking about things from our own angle.
Shifting From Keyboards to Spoken AI Interaction
Beyond the physical specifications of any upcoming hardware, Brockman envisions a broader cultural shift in how humans operate computers. For the vast majority of digital tasks, he expects users to move away from typing and toward direct speech communication with their machines. This transition, however, introduces immediate ergonomic and social challenges in shared environments.
Addressing the practical problem of coworkers speaking aloud to computers in open-plan offices, Brockman pointed to specialized soundproof beak
masks that have begun emerging in the marketplace. While he noted that he does not personally use one, he suggested that their existence really shows you where there’s product market fit,
even if public consensus views such masks as an imperfect solution.
Building Trust and Verifiable Data Privacy
As the company expands its software models and hardware ambitions, OpenAI is simultaneously attempting to resolve persistent user trust issues. According to Brockman, the company is working to address concerns regarding data handling, including questions about how private ChatGPT’s temporary chat
mode actually remains.
