Oregon Family Reports Alleged Assault Months Before Utah Teen Disappearance

A Community’s Growing Alarm in Huntington

When federal authorities finally tracked down and recovered a 17-year-old girl who had been missing from Garden City, Utah, for nearly a year and a half, the news brought a wave of relief to the small town of Huntington, Oregon. The recovery, which took place on November 1, 2026, resulted in the arrest of 39-year-old Adam Hunter Harmel. For Eric and Keriann Solari, who lived near Harmel in Huntington, the arrest was both a moment of grim vindication and a sobering reminder of their own unresolved struggle with the justice system.

The Solarai family, as reported by KUTV, says they had flagged Harmel’s behavior to Baker County authorities long before the Utah teenager disappeared. They allege that in late October or early November 2024, their then-6-year-old daughter disclosed an assault involving Harmel. The family reported the incident to local authorities the very same evening, and their daughter underwent a forensic interview the following day.

The Gap Between Allegation and Indictment

The path from that initial report to the present has been marked by frustration for the Solari family. Despite the forensic evidence gathered in late 2024, the Baker County District Attorney’s Office has maintained that the case remains active and ongoing. Documents shared by the family indicate that an Oregon sexual abuse protection order was issued on March 14, 2025, detailing restrictions regarding Harmel and the child.

The legal process stalled significantly when the case was presented to a grand jury in 2025. According to the District Attorney’s Office, the grand jury was presented with three options: to indict, to find that no crime was committed, or to request further investigation. The jury ultimately chose the latter, declining to return an indictment at that time.

“My daughter gave the information that she gave. That’s still sealed from us because it is an ongoing case,” Eric Solari told KUTV.

The situation grew more distressing for the family when they realized their daughter’s fear was not merely abstract. Keriann Solari noted that their daughter, terrified that Harmel was watching her through her bedroom window at night, was eventually forced to deal with the reality of him living nearby. The family even engaged the Oregon Housing Authority in an attempt to distance their child from Harmel, who they say moved across from their daughter’s school.

Federal Charges and the Road to Boise

The arrest on November 1, 2026, shifted the legal focus from local allegations to federal jurisdiction. A criminal complaint filed on November 2 in the District of Utah charges Harmel with transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. The federal complaint alleges that Harmel met the 15-year-old Utah girl online, drove to Garden City to pick her up, and transported her across state lines to his home in Oregon.

Harmel made his initial appearance in federal court in Boise, Idaho, on November 4, 2026. He is currently presumed innocent of these federal charges unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. As the federal case moves forward, the Baker County District Attorney’s Office has confirmed that the recent events in Huntington have provided enough cause to obtain a new search warrant, signaling that the local investigation into the prior allegations is being pursued with renewed vigor.

For families in the community, the timeline raises difficult questions about how a man under the shadow of a protection order and a grand jury investigation could remain in the community long enough to be linked to a missing person’s case in another state. While the federal case is set to continue with a hearing on November 10, 2026, in Boise, the Solari family remains focused on a singular, long-standing objective.

“If we can see this man off the streets and not able to hurt anybody else, that’s our end goal,” Eric Solari said. For now, that goal hinges on the intersection of a federal trial and a reopened local inquiry, both of which are currently unfolding as the community watches and waits for finality.
