Three Juveniles in Custody Following Delta Township Gun Threat
A heavy police presence descended on Lansing’s west side Friday afternoon after three juvenile suspects were taken into custody following an alleged threat involving a handgun. The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the incident began when deputies were dispatched to reports of three individuals on a moped threatening a person in the 5600 block of W. Saginaw Highway in Delta Township, WILX reported.
The situation triggered a multi-agency response as authorities worked to track the suspects through the busy commercial corridor. A deputy initially located the moped near the intersection of Snow Road and Michigan Avenue, close to the Waverly High School campus. While one suspect was detained immediately at that scene, the other two fled on the moped, prompting a broader search operation.
Lockdown Precautions Amidst Municipal Advisory
Because the pursuit occurred in the immediate vicinity of Waverly Community Schools, the district was placed under a precautionary lockdown. The impact of the incident was compounded by existing infrastructure challenges in the area; the district had already cancelled classes for the day due to a Boil Water Advisory currently affecting Delta Township. This intersection of a public safety threat and a public health advisory created a heightened state of alert for local residents.

The search for the remaining two suspects concluded after deputies tracked the moped to the area of Waverly Road and St. Joseph Highway. A perimeter was established, and with the assistance of a K-9 unit, officers successfully located and apprehended both individuals.
Ongoing Investigation into Juvenile Involvement
Authorities have confirmed that all three suspects are juveniles, though their specific ages have not been released to the public. The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office stated that there is no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation has now been referred to the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau to determine the circumstances surrounding the initial threat.
The operation involved a coordinated effort across several jurisdictions, with assistance provided by the Lansing Police Department, Lansing Township Police Department, Potterville Police Department, and the Michigan State Police. This collaboration highlights the standard response protocol for incidents involving potential firearms in public spaces, where municipal lines often blur during active pursuit scenarios.
As the case moves into the investigative phase, officials have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between the suspects and the individual they allegedly threatened. The incident remains an active case, with the Sheriff’s Office continuing to process evidence gathered during the Friday afternoon perimeter search.
