Pennsylvania Election Officials Urge Voters to Return Ballots by Nov 3

State election officials are reminding Pennsylvania voters that mail-in and absentee ballots must be received by county elections offices by 8 p.m. on November 3, 2026, as the final weekend of the midterm elections gets underway, WGAL reported.

Deadlines and Return Rules for Mail-In Ballots

The window to request a new mail-in or absentee ballot has already closed across the commonwealth. For voters who already have their mail-in packets in hand, Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt recommends dropping them off directly at a local elections office or an authorized drop box. Mailing a ballot at this late stage carries a distinct risk of postal delays preventing it from arriving by the strict 8 p.m. deadline.

Voters who chose to keep their unmailed ballots have another path. They can bring their complete mail-in ballot materials—including both the ballot and its official envelopes—to their designated polling place on Election Day. Once election workers void those returned mail-in materials, the voter receives a standard ballot to cast in person.

What happens if a voter requested a mail-in ballot but cannot surrender it at the precinct? Those individuals must vote via a provisional ballot. Election workers will later verify that those voters did not cast a second ballot before counting the vote.

Finding Your Polling Place and Voting Requirements

Polling places across Pennsylvania will open their doors from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, November 3. Anyone needing to locate their assigned voting booth can use the search tool on the Pennsylvania Voter Services website to look up local polling places by address.

First-time voters at a polling place must bring a valid form of identification, as outlined on the Pennsylvania government website.
