Huntsville Police Arrest Registered Sex Offender Following Digital Evidence Discovery
A routine request for digital file assistance at a local Huntsville business has triggered a significant criminal investigation, leading to the arrest of 59-year-old Daren William Mount. As reported by WAFF, the Huntsville Police Department took Mount into custody on Monday, charging him with 10 counts of first-degree voyeurism. The case has since been handed to the department’s Special Task Force Rescuing and Investigating Kid Exploitation (STRIKE), which is currently conducting a deep forensic review of electronic devices seized during the arrest.
The investigation began on October 17, according to WHNT, when an employee at a local business encountered what they described as “concerning” images while helping Mount transfer files. That report placed Mount on the radar of local authorities, who subsequently obtained search and arrest warrants based on the evidence gathered. Investigators have confirmed that the seized material includes pictures and videos of children, some of which were captured in public spaces. Authorities also noted that certain images appeared to have been manipulated, while others were framed to capture intimate areas of children’s bodies.
A History of Federal Violations
According to federal court records, he previously pleaded guilty to the receipt of child pornography in 2013, a case stemming from an indictment covering his activities between 2003 and 2010. Following that conviction, he was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison and 240 months of supervised release. His status as a registered sex offender is confirmed by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sex Offender Registry.

Since his release from federal custody in 2019, Mount has returned to prison twice due to violations of his supervised release terms. Federal records indicate that following one of these violations, a judge ordered that he remain under supervised release for life.
The Scope of the Ongoing STRIKE Investigation
While Mount currently faces 10 counts of voyeurism, the investigation is far from concluded. The STRIKE team is continuing its forensic examination of the digital storage devices seized during Monday’s arrest. Police officials have indicated to news outlets that the volume of data is substantial and that additional charges are a possibility as the review of the digital evidence proceeds.
