Rob Kazinsky returned to Albert Square last week as Sean Slater, the ex-military hard man who last graced Walford during a short stint from 2021 to 2022 before relocating to Brazil. His return arrives at the precise moment his former stepdaughter Amy Mitchell has fled the country with her groomer, Craig Ingram, and Sean immediately joined the search to bring Jack Branning’s daughter home. But Kazinsky has confirmed that Sean’s years overseas carry secrets that will soon be exposed to viewers, Digital Spy reported.
Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of This Morning, Kazinsky revealed that audiences will soon learn what his character was up to while away. “A lot happened in Brazil that we’re going to find out about in the future, and the reason why he’s back in Walford at all,” he said. The information to be disclosed will lead to what he calls “a really important and powerful storyline” that he believes will resonate with large sections of the audience and “help a lot of people.”
Kazinsky described the upcoming arc as “a really unique and special thing that hasn’t been explored properly before, that hasn’t been shown on screen to the degree we’re going to do it.” He told Radio Times that he sat down with executive producer Ben Wadey to flesh out what they would be doing for the foreseeable future, and that Wadey had an idea for a storyline that had “never been seen before with Sean,” which served as “a really big hook” that brought the actor back. “The storyline will tread new ground for him, and hopefully help a lot of people,” Kazinsky said. “It’s something completely new and brilliant, and that’s what got me back.” He added that EastEnders, as with all its storylines on current issues, aims to “nail” the portrayal and “really help a lot of people with in the future.”
The Brazil Revelations and the Fight for Amy
Sean’s reappearance coincides with a desperate search for Amy, who ran away with Craig Ingram after being groomed and manipulated into fleeing the country. In his latest appearance on the Square, Sean confronted Craig outside Walford Hospital, engaging in a physical tussle before taking the groomer’s car keys and declaring they were “due a chat.” The confrontation proved a distraction that allowed Craig to free himself and scramble back into his car before driving away with Amy.
Jack Branning was furious upon learning what transpired, but Amy later managed to call Sean and tell her where she was. When Craig discovered she was on the phone, he struck Amy across the face, sending the teen fleeing to a bathroom where she hid behind the door with an object in hand. As Craig entered the bathroom, Amy hit him, leaving him unconscious on the floor.
Earlier in the storyline, Sean had suggested getting Denise Fox to record an emotional video appeal, pretending that the prognosis of her cancer battle was looking bleak, though Jack had not always supported his investigation techniques.
Roxy Mitchell: The Love That Defines Him
According to Radio Times, Kazinsky has stressed that Roxy Mitchell, played by Rita Simons, remains central to Sean’s psychology despite her death nearly a decade ago. “Roxy is the love of his life,” Kazinsky said. “He might break a heart here or there, but Roxy is the love of Sean’s life, and nobody will ever take that space.” The actor explained that Sean “will never really love again, and that’s really sad,” and still sees himself as married to Roxy. He views Amy as Roxy, needing to be protected and serving as her guardian.

“I think that his love for Roxy is the thing that is the driving force of his ability to have gotten past his own demons. It’s the thing that he has to protect.”
This devotion frames Sean’s return to Walford not merely as a rescue mission for Amy but as a continuation of his promise to the woman he lost, even as Amy does not really know him.
An Unattached Force of Chaos
Kazinsky told Radio Times that Sean remains “a completely unattached acorn that can just go anywhere,” unlike other characters tied to specific areas of the Square. “You could put him in any scene with anyone, and something might happen,” he said. “We do see that over the next few months. Suddenly, Sean’s there, and everything’s chaos.”
The actor warned that viewers should be wary of the character’s volatility: “I think everybody should be frightened of him.” He described Sean as capable of turning on a dime—”he could suddenly just turn a dime and string you up by a lamp post, or beat you up, or give you all his money, or love you to death.” This unpredictable nature, Kazinsky said, is what makes the character compelling.
Airing Schedule for BBC One and iPlayer
With Kazinsky confirming he looks set to stick around Albert Square for some time, the Brazil revelations and the Roxy-driven storyline will unfold over the coming period. EastEnders airs Mondays through Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. on BBC One, with episodes also streaming on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6 a.m. ahead of their television broadcast.
