Sabah Father Reports Police Over Alleged School Bullying

Police in Kota Kinabalu are investigating allegations of bullying involving two siblings at a local primary school after their father filed a report on July 7. The father claims his 12-year-old daughter and younger son were physically attacked and harassed by a classmate, prompting an investigation into potential criminal offenses.

Police Investigation into Physical Assault Claims

Acting Kota Kinabalu police chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Abdul Rahman confirmed that authorities are probing the case following a formal complaint. According to the report lodged by the father, the alleged bullying occurred over two consecutive days at the beginning of the week.

The father reported that on Monday, July 6, his 12-year-old daughter was kicked in the back of her head by a classmate. The following day, the same boy allegedly kicked the girl’s younger brother in the stomach.

This included claims of frequent, insulting phone calls directed at the siblings, which the father identified as a persistent pattern of behavior leading up to the physical confrontations.

Legal Status and Ongoing Procedures

The investigation is currently focused on gathering evidence from those present at the school. Police are in the process of recording statements from the two victims, witnesses, teachers, and school administrative staff. To assess the physical impact of the alleged assaults, medical examinations have been conducted on both children at a local hospital. These medical reports are expected to form a critical component of the investigative file submitted to the public prosecutor’s office.

New report says Met Police rife with institutional bullying

Authorities have classified the inquiry under two specific sections of the Penal Code:

  • Section 323: For voluntarily causing hurt.
  • Section 507(b): For harassment, specifically regarding the use of threatening, abusive, or insulting communications.

Supt Syed Lot emphasized that the department handles reports of violence involving children with high priority and transparency. He urged the public to refrain from speculating on the details of the case or sharing information that might identify the children involved, noting that such actions could jeopardize the ongoing investigation and violate privacy protections afforded to minors under Malaysian law.

Earlier this month, 10 teenagers were detained in Tawau following allegations of a group beating. Similar investigations were opened in Tenom in June regarding the alleged bullying of a hostel mate, and in May, police investigated teenagers in Kota Kinabalu accused of assaulting a girl following a misunderstanding.
