Samsung Unveils Galaxy Buds On Clip-Style Wireless Earbuds for Open-Type Audio

Samsung Electronics has introduced the Galaxy Buds On, marking the company’s first entry into the clip-on wireless earbud market, according to reports. The new device was quietly unveiled alongside products such as the US launch of the Galaxy Tab S12 series and SmartTag 3, as noted by Android Authority.

The earbuds are designed to rest lightly over the outer ear without blocking the ear canal, differing from traditional in-ear models. This open-type configuration is intended for outdoor activities like walking, hiking, and running, enabling users to listen to music while remaining aware of ambient sounds such as approaching vehicles or pedestrians, as reported by The Chosun Ilbo.

Design and Ergonomics

To develop the clip-style form factor, Samsung analyzed data from various ear shapes and conducted simulations to optimize the placement of the speakers and internal battery, according to Android Authority. The structure features a widened contact area to distribute pressure more evenly across the ear, while the band’s elasticity is adjusted to secure the device during movement and reduce discomfort during long-term wear, as detailed by Maeil Business Newspaper.

Audio Technology and Performance

To counteract typical drawbacks of open-design earbuds—such as weak low frequencies and audio escape—Samsung integrated a Twin Boost speaker to enhance bass performance. The device also includes automatic volume control based on surrounding noise levels and a sound leakage reduction technology applied across the Galaxy Buds series for the first time, as reported by Seoul Economic Daily.

Under the hood, the earphones operate on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform paired with a high-efficiency Class-D amplifier to lower power consumption. A single battery charge provides up to 9.5 hours of continuous music playback, according to Android Authority.

AI Integration and Controls

The Galaxy Buds On incorporate multiple features linked with Galaxy AI devices. Users can activate Gemini Live through voice commands or create a quick voice memo by pressing and holding the back of the earbud, with recordings searchable via Bixby, according to Maeil Business Newspaper.

The earphones also support head gesture controls, allowing wearers to answer or end calls, dismiss alarms, and check message notifications by nodding or shaking their head. Volume and equalizer settings can be adjusted directly from smartphone settings or the quick panel without requiring a dedicated application, as noted by Biz. Chosun.

For phone calls, the hardware utilizes three microphones alongside a bone-conduction vibration sensor that detects subtle jaw and face movements during speech. Machine learning technology isolates the user’s voice from background noise, such as windy outdoor conditions or indoor vacuum cleaners, according to Maeil Business Newspaper.

Pricing and Availability

The Galaxy Buds On are offered in a single black color variant and are priced at 299,000 Korean won, which is approximately $220, according to Android Authority. The product will launch first in South Korea on October 27, followed by a sequential rollout to overseas global markets, as reported by Biz. Chosun.

It is a form factor designed for consumers' various daily use situations, said Junghyun Kim, executive vice president and head of the customer experience office at Samsung Electronics’ Mobile eXperience Division, in statements reported by Maeil Business Newspaper and Seoul Economic Daily. It will provide a comfortable daily listening experience while naturally connected to the surrounding environment.
