Tage Thompson scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with 6:20 remaining, to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, extending their road point streak to seven games.
Thompson Strikes Twice as Sabres Extend Road Streak
The matchup in Los Angeles showcased a tight battle where Buffalo capitalized on special teams to secure their third straight win overall. Thompson secured the deciding goal on a one-timer off a pass from Jack Quinn during a power play at 13:40 of the third period. Quinn finished the night with a goal and an assist, while Zach Benson and Rasmus Dahlin each contributed two assists for the Sabres.
Buffalo controlled long stretches of the contest early on, though undisciplined penalties allowed the Kings back into the game. Quinn opened the scoring in the first period with his eighth goal of the season at 6:35 on the power play. Despite Los Angeles building momentum late in the second frame, Thompson struck for his ninth of the year with 4:22 remaining in the period to push the lead to 2-0.
The Kings mounted a comeback when Corey Perry scored on a power play with 2:36 left in the second, a sequence that required a successful coach’s challenge to overturn an initial goaltender interference call. Andre Lee then leveled the score at 2-2 just 1:29 into the final period.
Lineup Adjustments and Next Matchups
Los Angeles played without Adrian Kempe, who is day-to-day due to an undisclosed injury. Martin Chromiak made his NHL debut, stepping into Kempe’s spot on the first line and the power-play unit.
