Topeka Man Leonard Rrapaj Pleads Guilty to Illegal Gun Possession

Leonard Rrapaj, a 62-year-old Topeka resident, has pleaded guilty in federal court to illegally possessing a firearm while already facing active criminal charges.

The Guilty Plea and Federal Court Timeline

According to court documents, Rrapaj entered a guilty plea to one count of illegal receipt of a firearm while under indictment. The charge stems from a federal investigation into Rrapaj, who was the owner of the Topeka Sports Cabaret. That establishment drew federal scrutiny in 2025, culminating in an FBI raid on both his residence and the business in August 2025.

During the execution of those search warrants, law enforcement agents discovered a firearm inside Rrapaj’s bedroom. Because he was already under federal indictment at that moment—having been initially charged in June 2025 with the illegal possession of a machine gun—acquiring or possessing another firearm constituted a distinct federal violation.

A federal district court judge is scheduled to sentence Rrapaj on February 10, 2027. The final prison term or probation conditions will be determined after the court weighs the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and various statutory factors.

Investigation and Prosecution Details

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the inquiry into the Topeka Sports Cabaret and the subsequent firearms discoveries at Rrapaj’s properties. Meanwhile, the legal prosecution in federal court is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lindsey Debenham, according to records from the U.S. Department of Justice.

With the guilty plea now formally entered on the court docket, the remaining questions center on the sentencing phase next February, where the defense and prosecution will present their arguments before the presiding federal judge.
