Boston Bruins Dominate Pittsburgh Penguins in 6-2 Victory

The Boston Bruins defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2 on Thursday night at PPG Paints Arena, improving their record to 12-4-1 with their third consecutive victory. Pavel Zacha scored two goals for Boston.

How did the Bruins pull away in Pittsburgh?

Justin Brazeau opened the scoring for Pittsburgh in the first period. But Boston answered before the period ended with three goals in the final eight minutes. Pavel Zacha tied the game, Mark Kastelic took the lead, and Elias Lindholm added an unassisted goal after stealing the puck from Erik Karlsson.

Nick Robertson cut the deficit to 3-2 for the Penguins in the second period, scoring his team-leading seventh goal of the season with assists from Kaedan Korczak and Blake Lizotte. That push was as close as Pittsburgh would get.

Zacha restored Boston’s two-goal cushion by scoring his second of the night off a pass from JJ Peterka, and Morgan Geekie added another tally before the second intermission to make it 5-2. Fraser Minten finished the scoring in the third period on a breakaway pass from Geekie.

Who stepped up in the lineup for Boston?

With Matthew Poitras sidelined after undergoing surgery for a broken nose sustained Monday against the Vegas Golden Knights, the Bruins leaned on their depth.

Morgan Geekie extended his goal-scoring streak to three consecutive games. Pavel Zacha led the offense with two goals.

For Pittsburgh, Arturs Silovs started in goal, but the Penguins never allowed Pittsburgh to build any momentum after its second goal.
