Father of 3 Killed in Motorcycle Crash, Family Says

A Father’s Final Ride: Henry Moore Dies a Day Before His Daughter’s Birthday

Henry Moore, a 37-year-old father of three and operator at the Chevron Richmond refinery for eight years, died in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on the morning of Oct. 29 as he was traveling to work, according to police and family statements. The fatal accident occurred on the Manuel Campos Parkway on-ramp to westbound Interstate 80. His death left a gaping hole in the lives of his wife and their three children: Ria, 11; Jhene, 8; and Nathaniel, 3. The timing was cruelly ironic; the day after Moore passed away was his daughter Ria’s 11th birthday, a fact his cousin-in-law Jess Romero said left the entire family “completely shattered.”

A Life Lived for Family and Adventure

Moore was more than just a dedicated employee; he was the heart of his family, a man who prioritized creating memories over material wealth. His 12-hour shifts at the refinery were the means to an end—a life spent exploring the world with his children. “He spent as much time as possible outside of his 12-hour shifts… travelling with his three young children to places like Hawaii, Tahoe and Disneyland,” Romero recounted.

Romero, speaking about his cousin-in-law, described Moore as a hard worker and a devoted family man. He had built a new family, of sorts, among his colleagues at the refinery, and every month, roughly 20 friends and family members would gather for Sunday dinners. The Sunday before his death, Romero remembered Moore enjoying grilled oysters and enthusiastically planning their next family trip to see loved ones in the Philippines and Hawaii. His adventurous spirit was evident in his hobbies—snowboarding, off-roading, jet skiing, and building and customizing cars. For the holidays, he was known for creating spectacular firework shows and insisting on a real Christmas tree each year.

“He was a loving husband, devoted father, son, grandson, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence brought joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories to everyone who knew him,” Romero wrote in Moore’s obituary.

“For Henry, it wasn’t just about the adventure; it was about who he got to experience it with,” Romero wrote. From family trips to everyday moments filled with laughter, Moore understood that the greatest treasures were the ones made together.

An Unanswered Question on the Road

While the circumstances of the crash are clear, the cause remains a mystery. Romero, who is uncertain about what exactly caused the accident, did offer a crucial piece of information from the investigation. “Investigators ruled out reckless speed as a factor after reviewing the scene,” he said.
