Small-business owners and aspiring cultivators in Vermont now have a direct pathway to master the state’s commercial cannabis market through a newly launched hands-on training initiative. Vermont State University is rolling out specialized cultivator workshops designed to bridge the gap between raw plant material and shelf-ready retail goods, events.vermontstate.edu reported.
The curriculum is split into two intensive multi-hour sessions per workshop date. The morning segment, running from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., zeroes in on harvesting and processing. Attendees will dig into wholesale flower intake, packaging requirements, extract creation, and the mechanics of taking a crop from wholesale bulk to retail-ready products.
Following that, the afternoon session from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. tackles manufacturing efficiency. This block focuses on the production of tinctures, gummies, candies, and drinks. Instructors Tim Egan, Jonathan Kaplan, and invited guests will guide participants through process mapping, facility layout, waste reduction, staff engagement, structured problem-solving, and strict food safety protocols using real-world case studies.
State Support and Private Partnerships Drive Affordability
The State of Vermont is backing the program through the Cannabis Business Development Fund, aiming to bolster social equity licenses and give independent operators access to expert industry guidance. These targeted workshops are sponsored in conjunction with Boveda, a global provider of two-way humidity control solutions for moisture-sensitive products with over 25 years of industry experience.
Vermont Governor Phil Scott has signed legislation into law that doubles the state’s adult-use marijuana possession and purchase limits while creating a new authorization process for cannabis events. https://t.co/ZeFtWCpjDZ
Enrollment is strictly capped at 15 participants per workshop to ensure hands-on engagement, with both in-person and online access options available. Standard tuition is set at $250 per workshop. However, social equity applicants and active license holders qualify for a reduced rate of $50, with additional tuition support accessible through the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD). Registration and further details are hosted directly through the Vermont State Colleges registration portal.
