Remembering Demien Demetrius Jones of Bedford, Virginia

Demien Demetrius Jones, widely known to his family and friends simply as “DJ,” passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was 47 years old.

Born in Manhattan, New York, on December 9, 1978, DJ was the son of Evelina “Cookie” Simmons Nellum and Jeffrey Jones. Over the course of his life, he built deep roots and lasting connections, ultimately making his home in Bedford, Virginia.

DJ is preceded in death by his mother, Evelina Simmons Nellum; his brother, Demetrius Jones; and his grandparents, James and Hallie Mae Jones. He leaves behind a wide circle of family and loved ones to cherish his memory, including his loving companion, Dalerie Brown, and his son, Keion Brown.

His family tree spans across several communities. He is survived by his father, Jeffrey T. Jones, along with Khloud of Bedford, Virginia; brothers Jamison R. Jones and Charles A. Jones, both of Bedford; and sister Tiffany M. Jones, along with John, of Petersburg, Virginia. He also leaves behind half-brothers Bruce Starks, Eric Wade, and Brian and Terell Nellum.

DJ’s extended family includes aunts Nina Jones of Madison Heights, Virginia, Mona Starks of Bedford, and Sheila Benning of Dayton, Ohio. Four uncles also mourn his passing: Steven Jones and Tracy of Richmond, Virginia; Richard Jones and Lorita Renee of Rapidan, Virginia; Rodney Jones and Denitra of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Chaunce Jones and Tonya of Bedford. Beyond his immediate relatives, he is remembered by devoted childhood friends Sean Bottoms and Jerome Scott, alongside a large host of additional family members and friends.
