Chris Brown Dismisses Backlash and Feud Rumors After Atlanta Tour Opener Starts Hours Late
Chris Brown pushed back against online criticism and rampant backstage rumors early Friday morning after the opening night of his co-headlining tour with Usher at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium suffered massive delays and a drastically shortened setlist. The Thursday, Nov. 5 concert started over two hours late, pressing the performance against a midnight curfew that forced both artists to cut their sets short.
The rocky start immediately rattled fans who had gathered for the five-night mini-residency. The Thursday show at Mercedes-Benz Stadium did not get underway until roughly 10 p.m., leaving concertgoers waiting nearly two and a half hours past expectations. The delay lasted up to two hours and 40 minutes, forcing the production to strip an entire hour of music from the scheduled program to comply with a local city ordinance.
The Stakes of a Blockbuster R&B Tour
The production stumble hits a particularly sensitive nerve given the massive commercial momentum behind the trek. The R&B Tour has proven to be an extraordinary financial success, ranking as the highest-grossing and best-selling touring venture of September. Billboard Boxscore figures reveal that the run pulled in $77.4 million and moved 423,000 tickets across 10 shows during that month. The Atlanta residency represents a milestone, with Brown and Usher becoming the first artists to play five shows during one tour stop at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, eclipsing the four-show mark set by Beyoncé in 2025.

Yet, that commercial success evaporated from the conversation inside the venue on Thursday night. Attendees took to social media platforms to air their grievances. Beyond the lost stage time, fans expressed intense frustration that the two headliners never once shared the stage for a duet, relying instead on surprise appearances from T.I. and Young Dro while keeping their own sets entirely separate.
“The Chris Brown Usher concert Night 1 was an absolute mess. They came out hours late, cut a full hour from the show, and refused to perform together,” an attendee wrote on the social media platform Threads.
Addressing the Internet Chatter
The lack of collaborative performances quickly escalated online speculation into rumors of an active backstage feud between the two. Frustrated attendees questioned the future of the tour, with some urging the artists to part ways altogether. As the chatter mounted across social platforms, Brown took to his Instagram Story on Friday, Nov. 6, to address the noise directly.

“Internet [cap],” Brown wrote. “Don’t fall for it.” Brown did not specify whether he was denying the rumors of a rift, the complaints about the concert delays, or both.
Neither artist nor their representatives issued a detailed public explanation for the scheduling breakdown. However, the tour schedule leaves little time to dwell on the opening night friction. Four more Atlanta performances remain on the calendar for Friday, Nov. 6, followed by shows on Sunday, Nov. 8, Tuesday, Nov. 10, and Wednesday, Nov. 11, before the production heads to Los Angeles.
