Early Voting Begins in Morton County as Statewide Turnout Climbs

Early voting is officially underway in Morton County, joining a growing number of North Dakota communities where residents are heading to the polls ahead of the November election. According to reporting from KFYR-TV, the designated polling location in Mandan experienced a steady stream of voters from the moment its doors opened, with hundreds of county residents casting ballots on the first day.

Statewide election figures contextualize the local turnout. The North Dakota Secretary of State’s website indicates that approximately 600,000 residents are eligible to participate in the upcoming election. Out of that statewide total, nearly 13,000 people have already cast their ballots across the seven counties currently offering early voting opportunities, placing Morton County among a select group of jurisdictions facilitating early participation.

“They pack it in a tote for us when they bring it over, we just set everything out. You know, we do our count whatever it may be. I have a good team that I work with, these four women I’ve worked with for a good six to eight years already together,” said Marlys Balkowitsch, an election worker quoted by KFYR-TV.

Balkowitsch added that operations remained brisk throughout the day, noting that the flow of voters was “phenomenal” and remained steady following a 9:30 a.m. opening.

Voters Use TV Ads and News to Decide

Local residents had to filter through a heavy volume of media messaging before casting their ballots. Voters like Mike Zerr described relying on a mix of broadcast news and campaign advertisements to weigh their choices before arriving at the Mandan polling site.
