IRClass Academy and PIP Makassar Enhance Maritime Capability Through IMPDP 2026

IRClass Academy and PIP Makassar have enhanced executive maritime capability through the successful conclusion of the International Maritime Professional Development Programme (IMPDP 2026) at Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran (PIP) Makassar, Indonesia. The six-day executive-level initiative, staged in partnership with May Maritime Services Sdn Bhd, Malaysia, gathered senior maritime professionals, maritime academy leaders, regulators, lecturers and practising ship superintendents from Indonesia and the region.

Programme Focus and Content

The International Maritime Professional Development Programme (IMPDP 2026) centered on the vital function of shore-based professionals in converting regulatory requirements into effective shipboard practices. Extending past standard STCW certification, the programme covered ISM, ISPS and MLC 2006 requirements along with safety auditing, human factors, cybersecurity, root cause analysis, risk management and commercial ship superintendency. The focus was on shifting compliance past paperwork and towards tangible risk controls, analyzing regulatory requirements alongside real-world operations to assist in connecting the gap between what is taught, regulated and implemented aboard ships. The programme also covered the increasing demands placed on ship operators by Port State Control inspections, oil major vetting and progressively complex technical, digital and human-factor risks.

Collaborative Partnerships

The programme was a joint undertaking between PIP Makassar, IRClass Academy and May Maritime Services Sdn Bhd, Malaysia. With its 105-year history in maritime education and training, PIP Makassar supplied the academic and institutional platform. IRClass Academy, via its parent body the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), contributed the international maritime expertise and practical industry perspective to the programme.
