“The additional equipment included 19 K3 machine guns and M60 machine guns distributed to the 57th, 6th, 40th and 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalions,” Brig. Gen. Edgar L. Catu reported following a military distribution ceremony.

The Philippine Army’s 6th Infantry Division (6ID) transferred new firearms and mobility assets to multiple subordinate units stationed across its area of responsibility, the Philippine News Agency reported. The event took place on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, at Camp Siongco in Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, with division commander Brig. Gen. Edgar L. Catu overseeing the handover.

The recent allocation targets battalions operating within Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte. Alongside the K3 and M60 machine guns sent to the 57th, 6th, 40th, and 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalions, logistics support elements also expanded their inventory.

According to the official reports, the Service Support Battalion acquired two mobile kitchens. Meanwhile, transport capabilities expanded as the 1st Mechanized Brigade received one KM250 truck, and both the 37th and 57th Infantry Battalions took delivery of KM450 trucks.

The distribution also extended personal sidearms to newly commissioned officers. Catu confirmed that 26 new 9mm pistols went to Army second lieutenants assigned across various local units.

Operational Readiness in the Region

Military leadership framed the acquisition as a direct measure to sustain field capabilities. “The distribution of additional equipment was an important step in maintaining troop readiness and ensuring efficient military operations throughout its area of responsibility,” Catu stated.

Additional coverage of the handover shared via X by the Philippine News Agency highlighted photographs of officers receiving the M60 machine gun directly from the division commander during the Camp Siongco ceremonies.

The logistics refresh provides immediate mechanical and defensive support to units patrolling the central Mindanao provinces, reinforcing ongoing territorial security frameworks without specifying upcoming operational timelines.
