Michael Edward Leonard, a native of Charlestown, County Mayo, passed away peacefully at St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds on Monday, November 2, 2026. He was 75 years old. According to information reported by Midwest Radio, his passing occurred on All Souls’ Day.

Born on September 17, 1951, Mr. Leonard resided in Robinhood, Leeds, having previously lived in Botuney, Charlestown. His life and legacy are currently being honored by a wide circle of family and friends both in the United Kingdom and Ireland as they prepare for his final services.

Services in Leeds and County Sligo

The arrangements for Mr. Leonard’s funeral will span two countries, reflecting his ties to both his adopted home in Leeds and his roots in County Mayo. His remains are currently reposing at Hughes Funeral Home on York Road, Leeds. A mass will be held at the Hughes Chapel on Thursday, November 19, at 6:30 p.m.

Following the services in England, his remains will return to Ireland. He will be reposing at Howleys Funeral Home in Curry, County Sligo, on Friday, November 20, between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. A removal is scheduled for the following morning, Saturday, November 21, to the Church of St. James in Carracastle. The requiem mass will commence at 12:30 p.m., with burial to follow in the local cemetery at Carracastle.

Family and Memorial Contributions

Mr. Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Patrick Leonard, his brothers Tom and Pat, and his sisters Bea, Agnes, and Maureen. He is deeply mourned by his brother, Sean, and his sister, Josephine. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Margaret, and a large extended family, including his nieces Mary, Lisa, Siobhan, Joanne, Fiona, Declan, Barry, and Martin, as well as his great-nieces, Sinead, Aisling, and Aimee.

The Leonard family has requested that no flowers be sent. In lieu of floral tributes, they have asked for donations to be directed to St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds, the facility that provided his care.
