Sioux Falls Man Charged With Murder in October Homicide Investigation

Travis Mondale Moore Arrested in October Homicide of Derrick Franklin

Sioux Falls police have taken 45-year-old Travis Mondale Moore into custody, charging him with second-degree murder and aggravated assault in connection with the October death of Derrick Franklin. The arrest comes 25 days after officers first responded to a distress call near downtown Sioux Falls, according to reports from Dakota News Now.

The investigation traces back to the evening of October 10, 2026. At approximately 8:25 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the 1000 block of East 8th Street following reports of a man found unresponsive and covered in blood. While the initial call was categorized as a cardiac arrest, officers arriving on the scene discovered 48-year-old Derrick Franklin deceased with apparent gunshot wounds.

For more than three weeks, the Sioux Falls Police Department (SFPD) worked to identify a suspect. SFPD Detective Cole German noted in a press release reported by the Argus Leader that the department dedicated a substantial amount of time and resources to the case, working alongside community partners to track leads. This collaborative effort ultimately resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant with no bond for Moore.
