Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds datamine hints at potential Year 2 characters, unconfirmed by SEGA

A datamine of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ Version 2.0.0 files has turned up potential Year Two characters: Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII Remake, Movie Sonic, Akira Yuki and a figure listed only as “Marisa.” SEGA has not officially confirmed any of them, but the findings match collaborations the company has already teased for the game’s second year.

The leak surfaced days after SEGA pushed the racer’s biggest update yet. Version 2.0.0 went live across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch on Wednesday, November 4 at 1:15 a.m., following an original announcement on Tuesday, November 3 at 00:45 GMT. Fans quickly began digging through the new files. Ahead of the rollout, Sonic Global Community Director Aaron Webber said players could expect new additions, changes, and improvements alongside Year Two’s free and paid characters and machines.

Which characters does the datamine point to?

The datamine shared by VocaloidMikuBr shows file entries for Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockhart in a Final Fantasy VII Remake DLC. A separate report of the same files lists the identical pair. The analysis cautions that this is not a full reveal of everything SEGA has planned. Nothing has been announced, so these characters are not officially confirmed just yet.

Among potential free characters, the files include “Marisa” — which some speculate could signal a Touhou collaboration — alongside Movie Sonic, Will from Metaphor: ReFantazio, Sakura Shinguji from Sakura Wars and Akira Yuki from Virtua Fighter. The leak is not a complete picture of SEGA’s plans. Nothing in it has been announced officially.

What did the November 3 update add?

Version 2.0.0 is the foundation of Year Two. It introduces Duel Mode, a 1v1 format with a Duel Boost gauge, where players can see an opponent’s items, gadgets and position. The development team said this lets races unfold in entirely different ways.

Offline Rival Duels pit players against CPU opponents; online Duel Matches use casual matchmaking. Limited-time competitive events and customizable races with friends are also in, plus two-player Duel and Best-of-10 competitions coming soon. The Duel Boost gauge fills over time and through frequent item use, giving players a speed burst for clutch comebacks.

The roster now stands at 62 playable characters, up from the 23 the game launched with on September 25, 2025. Previously distributed Festival reward gadgets can now be purchased with Donpa Tickets.

Equipping both Ring Engine and Hyper Ring Engine no longer grants an additional stat boost; the same boost can be achieved by placing Quick Starter or Starting Boost Bounty in the seventh slot.

Other adjustments: Tuner Gadgets (+8 to +15 when machine type mismatches), Summon Item Box (40 to 30 Rings needed), Speed Item Chance UP (now two slots instead of three), Go Go Omochao (dispensing time up from 8 to 10 seconds), Crash Pads (protecting 30% of Rings instead of 50%, unchanged in Super Slot), Travel Ring Bounty (15 to 25 Rings), and slipstream kits granting Rings every 0.6 seconds rather than 0.5.

Passing through Dash Rings now causes less rebound when colliding with other machines. Homing Punch and Slicer users are immune to their own attacks. Power Type Machines had their maximum speed bonus cap fixed to match other types.

Twenty-five collaboration decals were also revealed, drawing from events like k4sen’s streamer-hosted gathering and partnerships with Sega UFO Catcher Online, Yoshinoya, Imuraya and AUTOBACS.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds – YEAR TWO is PEAK!

Which Year Two collaborations has SEGA officially confirmed?

SEGA’s announced calendar is narrower than the datamine. Bayonetta launched November 3 as a free unlock through Rival Duel, arriving with the Butterfly Witch vehicle, special emotes and sounds. Super Shadow and the Super Dark Flare vehicle became available November 3 to players owning both Season Pass One and Season Pass Two.

The Godzilla Pack is the first of six premium DLC packs promised for Year Two, alongside eight free updates. Later paid collaborations on the roadmap include Evangelion, Sanrio, SEGALAND, Final Fantasy VII and Persona. A Final Fantasy VII Remake tie-in is confirmed, though SEGA has not officially revealed which characters it will add. The roadmap extends into 2027.

Also debuting November 3, the Sega Consoles Pack — included in the Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition and Season Pass Two — features the Genesis Tower US, SegaSaturn JP and Dreamcast EU vehicles, which first appeared online as an April Fool’s joke. The team translated each console’s rounded forms into fenders and nose sections and angular lines into body panels and hoods, and recreated the Dreamcast’s Visual Memory Unit using original reference material from the era.

Should players treat the datamine as final?

No. The leaked names are file entries, not announcements. Some align with SEGA’s confirmed plans — the Final Fantasy VII Remake pack is real — while others, like the possible Touhou figure Marisa, appear nowhere in official material.
