South Africa Investigates Deaths of Seven Women Amid Serial Killer Fears

South African law enforcement agencies are investigating the deaths of seven women whose bodies were discovered in and around Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg, over a period of about two months. The grim discoveries have triggered widespread alarm and fueled growing fears among the public that a serial killer may be operating in the region.

According to official reports, the victims are predominantly in their 20s or 30s. Among the identified victims is 38-year-old runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, who vanished after leaving her home in Kempton Park for an afternoon run. Her family subsequently identified her body at the Germiston government mortuary. Investigators noted that several of the recovered bodies showed signs of sexual violence, with some victims stripped of their clothing, partially clothed, or decomposing at the time of discovery.

Task Team Formed Amid Serial Killer Fears

Police authorities are actively examining whether the killings were perpetrated by a single individual, multiple suspects, or copycat criminals. However, law enforcement officials have emphasized that they have not yet established a definitive motive or officially confirmed whether the deaths are connected. Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe urged women who walk, exercise, or jog in the area to remain vigilant and exercise in groups while the investigation continues. Authorities have also advised the public to avoid isolated and secluded locations.
