Teresa O'Halloran of Foxford dies in her 96th year

Teresa (Ellen) O’Halloran of Kennedy Villa, Swinford Road, Foxford, County Mayo — in Irish, Eibhlín Bn Uí hAllmhúrain (née Hughes) — died peacefully at home surrounded by family in her 96th year, Midwest Radio reported.

The death notice, also carried by rip.ie, records that she was predeceased by her beloved husband Paddy, her brothers Michael and John, and her sisters May and Kay. She is forever missed by her heartbroken daughters Caitríona, Thérése, Eimear, Mary and Lorraine, her son Patrick, daughter-in-law Frances, sons-in-law Declan, Chris and Tommy, partner Frank, sister-in-law Winifred, brother-in-law Henry, her many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family, kind neighbours and friends, and her many dedicated carers, especially Johanne.

A Múinteoir Ionúin Remembered in Two Languages

The notice pays tribute to her life’s work in the Irish she wrote alongside the English: “Múinteoir ionúin a bhfuil na daltaí iomadúla a mhúin sí thar na blianta ag aireachtáil a huireasa” — a beloved teacher whose countless pupils, whom she taught over the years, will feel her absence. “Ar dheis Dé, go raibh a hanam dílis” — may her faithful soul rest with God.

That bilingual tribute captures the woman Foxford knew: a teacher rooted in the Irish-speaking tradition of Mayo, remembered by generations of students she taught across the years.

Repose Thursday at Kennedy Villa, Funeral Mass Friday at St Michael’s

Teresa will rest in repose at her residence on Thursday from 4pm until 6pm. Her funeral will arrive at St Michael’s Church, Foxford, on Friday for funeral Mass at 2pm, followed by a private service of committal at Shannon Crematorium.

Donations to Foxford Alzheimer’s Community Trust in Lieu of Flowers
