“We are admitting Baba to Breach Candy Hospital for further tests,” Supriya Sule wrote on X. “Thank you all for your concern and good wishes.” The post from the Baramati MP came Wednesday after her father, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar, was readmitted to the Mumbai hospital just hours after being discharged from Pune’s Ruby Hall Clinic, The Times of India reported.
The 85-year-old veteran leader had been discharged earlier in the day from Ruby Hall Clinic, where he was admitted on November 2 following complaints of cough and pleuritic chest pain. But within hours, he was moved to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai for further tests, according to the report. The Times of India noted that Sule confirmed the move was for further tests.
Baba has been admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune, following a bout of cough. He is undergoing medical tests, and all his health parameters are stable. Thank you all for your concern and good wishes.
Dr. Purvez K Grant, chief cardiologist and chairman of Ruby Hall Clinic, had earlier described the initial admission as a general check-up and medical observation. The Times of India explained that pleuritic pain refers to chest pain that typically worsens while breathing, coughing or sneezing, a symptom that prompted the precautionary hospitalization and the transfer to Mumbai.
Modi Calls to Advise Complete Rest
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Pawar over the phone Wednesday morning, enquiring about his health and advising the veteran leader to take complete rest. According to Pawar’s aide Vitthal Maniyar, the prime minister spoke with “great affection and respect” and told Pawar that Supriya Sule was now ready to take care of the country while her father should rest. ThePrint reported that Pawar was discharged from Ruby Hall Clinic as he was stable and doing well, and had been expected to travel to his Mumbai residence before the readmission.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Pawar saheb this morning to enquire about his health. He spoke to him with great affection and respect and requested him to take complete rest. Modi told him that Supriya (Sule) was now ready and she and others would take care of the country, while Pawar saheb should rest,” Maniyar told reporters, according to ThePrint.
Maniyar added that Pawar thanked the prime minister for his concern and assured him that he was taking rest and had no worry about the country as others were there to handle matters. “Pawar saheb told the PM that he was taking rest and had no worry about the country as all of them were there to take care of things,” the aide said.
From Drought Tour to Hospital Bed
The hospitalization follows a rapid turn of events for the veteran politician. ANI News reported that on November 1, Pawar went to Tulshi village in Mhada taluka of Maharashtra’s Solapur district to assess the ongoing drought situation and engage with affected farmers and villagers. During the visit, he voiced concern about the rising distress in the rural belt and underlined that combined action by the administration and society is crucial to provide immediate relief to the farming community and agricultural labourers.

However, Pawar cut short his tour of drought-affected areas in Pune district due to unseasonal rainfall in Baramati and adjoining regions, Hindustan Times reported. Baramati recorded 77.2 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Monday, according to India Meteorological Department data cited by the outlet. Several other parts of the district also received moderate to heavy rainfall, forcing the postponement of the scheduled inspection. Hindustan Times also reported that Pawar had told the chief minister to declare a drought and provide financial aid of ₹50k per hectare to farmers and ₹25k to farm labour families.
Party leader Mehbub Shaikh announced the decision on X, citing the increasing rainfall. Pawar had begun his tour on Sunday to assess ground conditions in drought-affected areas and meet farmers facing water shortages and crop-related difficulties. The rapid shift from touring drought-affected areas to a hospital bed in Pune, and now Mumbai, followed the veteran leader’s visit.
Doctors Monitor Patient After Chest Concerns
At Ruby Hall Clinic, doctors kept Pawar under observation as a precautionary measure following his complaints of pleuritic pain. Dr. Grant stated in an official release that Pawar’s condition was expected to settle down and that he would remain under observation. ANI News quoted family friend Vitthal Maniyar as saying that due to recent weather changes, Pawar developed a cough which led to a mild chest infection, but all necessary tests were conducted and nothing concerning was found.
Sule had earlier posted on X that her father was undergoing medical tests and all his health parameters were stable. With the readmission to Breach Candy Hospital on Wednesday, the focus now shifts to the further tests in Mumbai. The veteran leader, who heads the NCP (SP), remains under medical care as doctors monitor his recovery from the chest pain that led to his hospitalization, with family members expressing gratitude for the public’s good wishes.
“It is a very minor infection that will clear up. The doctor has advised medication and rest. He is currently resting, feeling better, and interacting with everyone. There is no cause for alarm,” Maniyar said, according to ANI News.
