WHO Chief, ENHYPEN Celebrate Blood Drive Success

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus met K-pop group ENHYPEN in Seoul on October 22, 2026, to celebrate a global blood donation campaign that drew thousands of volunteer pledges across 177 countries following an initiative launched with their seventh EP.

The global blood donation initiative brought together the United Nations health agency and a major music powerhouse in a bid to reach younger generations. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus traveled to Seoul to meet the six members of ENHYPEN—Jungwon, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, and Ni-ki—at HYBE’s headquarters in Yongsan District on October 22, marking a celebration of the group’s ongoing work to encourage unpaid donations.

From Vampire Concept to Red Cross Drives in Seoul

The campaign originated in January alongside the release of the band’s seventh mini-album, titled THE SIN : VANISH. Drawing on the vampire mythology woven through their musical narrative, the group partnered with the Korean Red Cross to deploy blood donation buses directly to major gathering spots for fans, alongside nationwide online events. Officials from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Blood Services Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross also attended the subsequent review meeting to examine these outreach efforts.

That domestic push yielded immediate results between January 16 and 25, when 7,730 people participated in the drive. Among them, 1,031 were first-time donors—marking a surge of approximately 19 times the volume recorded during comparable prior periods. The effort soon crossed national borders, expanding into Japan and Singapore and pushing the cumulative participant count to about 10,000.

Global Expansion and World Blood Donor Day

In June, the partnership scaled up internationally when ENHYPEN teamed up with the World Health Organization for World Blood Donor Day. Members released digital content and social media videos emphasizing the critical need for safe blood supplies, while also visiting a Korean Red Cross blood donation center in Seoul to undergo screening and donate plasma themselves. During these discussions, the WHO leader pointed out that many patients requiring transfusions are unable to obtain safe blood supplies in a timely manner.

You can donate whole blood, plasma or platelets. I donated plasma today. I hope you all joined in this good cause too.

The digital messaging struck a chord across multiple continents. Fans from countries including Indonesia, the Philippines, Germany, and the United States shared personal donation stories online. According to World Health Organization figures, the Drop Your Drop global campaign ultimately registered more than 9,000 pledges across 177 countries, with over 3,250 participants identifying specifically as members of the group’s global fan community, known as ENGENE.

Blood is the most precious gift anyone can give to another person — the gift of life. I’m proud of all the members of ENHYPEN for working with WHO and committing to encourage blood donation and save lives.

The WHO chief added that the last campaign reached millions and achieved massive success, pointing out that the artists and their audience hold genuine influence.

We launched this campaign hoping our fans would join us, and we’re grateful to see ENGENEs from all around the world taking part. We hope to continue creating meaningful change together with our fans.
