Ministers and ESCAP Convenes Ninth Session on Social Development
As Mirage News noted, top policymakers, ministers, and specialists assembled to investigate methods for reducing poverty, bolstering social safety nets, adapting to an aging demographic, and funding the care economy.
Organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the ninth session of the Committee on Social Development (CSD9) will analyze ways for nations to better align social policies in order to confront upcoming hurdles, foster more robust communities, and guarantee that growth dividends are shared by all.
Social Outlook for Asia and the Pacific 2026 Launch
The session features the launch of Social Outlook for Asia and the Pacific 2026: Eradicating Poverty and Empowering People. The report examines poverty trends across the region, showing how poverty goes beyond a lack of income to encompass multiple forms of deprivation.
These deprivations include poor housing, inadequate sanitation, and limited access to education. To tackle these difficulties and narrow the wealth gap, the publication emphasizes the necessity of synchronized funding directed toward human capital, social protection, fair employment, and both the social and solidarity economy.

Delegates Renew Regional Cooperation Commitments and Prepare for Ageing Review
Additionally, the gathering serves as a platform for member states to reaffirm their dedication to the Action Plan to Strengthen Regional Cooperation on Social Protection in Asia and the Pacific. Participants will similarly address the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, including preparations for the Fifth Review and Appraisal.
Representatives from various countries will share national experiences and policies designed to address poverty in all its forms and dimensions. They will also discuss ways to advance regional cooperation on comprehensive, inclusive, and resilient care systems.
