Hawaii Volleyball Secures Share of Mountain West Title with Nevada Sweep

The Hawaii Rainbow Wahine volleyball team secured at least a share of the Mountain West Conference regular-season title tonight, dominating Nevada in a decisive three-set sweep at the Bankoh Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center.

According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, the final scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-5 showed a performance where Hawaii hit .344 for the match, peaking at .542 in the third set alone.

Junior middle blocker Miliana Sylvester paced the floor, leading all players with 13 kills and six blocks. With this performance, Sylvester officially surpassed 300 career blocks. Her teammate, Cha’lei Reid, provided an equally efficient offensive presence, recording 12 kills on 21 swings without committing a single error. Middle Rachel Purser also maintained an unblemished stat line, converting seven kills on 10 errorless swings.

The efficiency of the Rainbow Wahine proved insurmountable for the Nevada defense, particularly as the match progressed. A crowd of 6,306 watched as senior Panna Ratkai contributed four of Hawaii’s eight service aces, further widening the gap as the match reached its lopsided conclusion in the final frame.

Rainbow Wahine sweep Nevada, clinch spot in Mountain West Tournament

With a conference record of 13-1 and an overall standing of 21-4, Hawaii has already locked in its spot in the four-team conference tournament. The team is now positioned to secure the No. 1 seed for that postseason event. This outcome is guaranteed if the Rainbow Wahine win just one of their final four matches, or through a specific combination of losses by other schools in the conference.

The team’s immediate focus shifts to the final home stretch of the regular season. Hawaii will host Air Force for two consecutive matches this Thursday and Friday.

Following the conclusion of Friday’s match, the program will hold a ceremony to honor seniors Panna Ratkai and Leilani Lopez, alongside fourth-year junior Tali Hakas. Hakas recently announced that she will not return for a final season of eligibility, marking the end of her tenure with the program.
