Amazon Unveils New Echo Show 16 and Expanded Smart Home Hardware

Amazon unveiled a hardware lineup on October 28, 2026, featuring a redesigned 16-inch Echo Show smart display, a camera-equipped Echo Studio speaker, an automated Echo Time alarm clock, a smart photo frame, and a heavily upgraded Echo Dot starting at $100.

Amazon has expanded its smart home hardware family with an aggressive push toward premium features, AI integration, and room-scanning displays. Panos Panay, Amazon’s senior vice president of devices and Alexa, announced the new products at an intimate media-only event in New York City on October 28, 2026. Panay noted during the launch that a couple hundred million people now use the revamped Alexa+ voice assistant on their Echo devices, with users talking to the assistant significantly more than before its AI upgrade.

The company introduced the fresh hardware slate following its recent Kindle lineup releases and earlier product rollouts in October. According to Amazon, the newly announced hardware devices—except for the flagship display—became available for purchase immediately on October 28, while the Echo Show 16 was made available for pre-order ahead of shipping later in the year.

Echo Show 16 Brings Nanomatte Screens and Fire TV Integration

Buyers can choose between a standard vibrant display or a nanomatte display designed to cut down on glare. The device runs the full Fire TV experience by touch and includes a remote control in the box.

The standard model of the Echo Show 16 costs $499, while the version featuring the anti-glare Nanomatte display runs $569. Preorders open on October 28, 2026, with an introductory price offering a $100 discount off standard pricing. Customers purchasing the device can wall-mount it or select from optional stands, including a swivel stand priced at $69 and a swivel-and-tilt stand costing $124.

The refreshed smart display also introduces three distinct Screen Styles that let users transform the interface into a full-time family organizer, smart home hub, or digital photo frame. Additionally, the software includes a new Alexa Home Map feature that displays an interactive 3D view of the home built by scanning rooms with an iPhone.

Amazon Adds Camera for Visual Intelligence to Studio

In one of the line’s most distinct hardware shifts, Amazon added a 13-megapixel camera to its premium screenless Echo Studio speaker. While the acoustic drivers include three custom drivers and a high-excursion woofer to deliver Dolby Atmos 3D sound, the addition of visual intelligence allows Alexa to recognize objects held in front of the lens.

David Carnoy of CNET noted that the camera doubles as a nanny cam with Live View capabilities to let owners check in on rooms while away. The Echo Studio with Home Camera retails for $249.99 or £239.99. Meanwhile, the standard camera-free Echo Studio remains available for sale.

Dot Price Rises to $100 with Networking Upgrades

Amazon’s ubiquitous entry-level smart speaker has crossed a major pricing threshold. The redesigned Echo Dot now starts at $100, marking a notable increase from its historical $50 price point. The speaker is offered in graphite, glacier white, agave green, and coral pink color options.

To justify the cost, Amazon packed substantial networking and smart home architecture into the spherical body. Powered by the custom AZ3 chip for advanced on-device processing, the new Dot functions as a Thread border router, supports the Matter and Zigbee standards, and includes a built-in Eero Wi-Fi extender capable of adding up to 1,000 square feet of network coverage. David Watsky, managing editor for home and kitchen at CNET, also highlighted the Amazon Kids Echo Dot versions available.

Time Bedside Clock Tracks Breathing to Wake Sleepers

Rounding out the new ecosystem are two lifestyle-focused devices designed for bedrooms and living spaces. The Echo Time smart alarm clock features a circular touchscreen, hundreds of customizable clock faces, and ultrasound sensors capable of tracking breathing patterns to rouse sleepers during lighter parts of their sleep cycle between 10 and 60 minutes of a set alarm. The Echo Time is priced at $199.99 and comes in graphite, glacier white, and coral pink, while the Amazon Kids Echo Time is offered in galactic grape and cosmic lime.
